The Weight Changes after Gastrectomy in Gastric Cancer Patients

Abstract
Gastrectomy is associated with poor oral intake and weight loss in almost all cases.
For the purpose of aiding the evaluation of the postoperative clinical course of gastric cancer patients by examining the body weight changes caused by gastric resection, we checked body weight of 46 patients with gastric cancer serially for 12
months
after operation since January, 1991.
Average weight loss at twelfth month after gastrectomy was 1.33 Kg in subtotal gastrectomy group 5.95 Kg in total gastrectomy group, 0.08Kg in gastro-duodenostomy group, 1.86Kg in gastro-jejunostomy group and 6.55kg in Roux-en-Y
esophago-jejunostomy
group.
In conclusion, we can say that the rate of weight loss according to gastrectomy reach the peak at one month after the operation and preoperative weight was almostly regained 12 months after the operation in Billroth-I gastro-duodenostomy group
while it
could not be regained in Billroth-II gastrojejunostomy and Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy group.
